Thomas Joseph Maletta, 51, of Centerville, Iowa died Sunday, August 31, 2008 at CLC of Granger.
Tom was born on September 29, 1956 in Centerville to John and Ida Maletta. He grew up in Mystic, Iowa and graduated from Centerville High School. After graduating from the University of Iowa in 1978, Tom began a career with HyVee, Inc. that included positions in Maryville, MO, Des Moines, Albia and Rock Island, IL. In 1980 Tom married Ann Kelly of Centerville and to this marriage a daughter, Sara, was born.
Tom was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. It was his strong faith and positive attitude that sustained him through good times and bad. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also enjoyed golf, hunting, and many spectator sports including the Iowa Hawkeye teams. Tom especially loved spending time with his daughter.
Tom is survived by his daughter Sara of Rock Island, IL; his parents, John and Ida Maletta of Centerville; his sister Suzanne (James) Roth of Ankeny, IA; and his brother John (Luann) of West Des Moines, IA and nieces and nephews, Michael Roth, Rachel Roth, Abigail Maletta Hollenbeck (Matt), Kate Maletta and Nick Maletta.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Rosary will be at 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 10:30 am, in Centerville, Iowa. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the St. Mary's Catholic Church and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
