Ginger Brooks, age 52, of Altoona, Iowa, passed away March 18, 2009 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa from a long courageous battle with cancer.

Ginger was born to Clayton and Betty (Swanson) McDonald on November 28, 1956 in Iowa City, Iowa. She married Bobbie Brooks Sr. on April 21, 1972 in Centerville, Iowa. To this union, 4 children were born; Bobbie (Christy) Brooks, Jr. of Unionville, MO, Angie (Joe) Bratz of Centerville, Becca (Ryan) Stewart of Cincinnati, and Billy Brooks and friend Tara of Rocky Ford, OK.

Ginger is survived by her husband, kids, and grandkids, Garrett and Dylan Brooks, Chelsey Banks, Ty Stewart, Makayla Brooks. She is also survived by full siblings, Vickie (Tim) Peek, Tina (Jim) Miller, and Buddy (Kathy) McDonald; ½ siblings -Kathy (Herbie) Atwood, Linda (Jeff) Davis, Judy (Joe) Bertrum, Debbie Skitton, Terry (Kim) McDonald, Danny (Donna) McDonald, Mike (Maggie) McDonald, David (Diane) McDonald, and Tim McDonald; many nieces and nephews, her beloved dog Sammie and cat Katy.

Her parents, a sister Betty Joe, and in-laws, Cleo and Maxine Brooks, preceded her in death.

Ginger lived most of her life in Centerville. Babysitting kids was her passion. She recently worked at Grand View Child Development in Des Moines, doing what she loved most. Ginger was happiest when family and friends gathered around to listen to music or just talk. She was known by many as Mom or Grandma Ginny. Ginger had the ability to make friends with just about anyone she met. She will be remembered for her love of music, her eccentric tie-dyed style, and her jewelry.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with Reverend Bill Eakins officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, Iowa. A visitation will be held Friday at Lange Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 PM that evening. A memorial has been established to the family and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544. Condolences may be left online at www.langefh.com.
