A life-long resident of Centerville, Iowa and life-long member of the Evangelical Covenant Church died at home of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In death, she joins her husband of 44 years, William Gene Kinnamon, her parents Annie Mae (Fisher) and Harold Dick Conn, her brothers Leonard (MN), Lester (MN), Elton (MN) and Ole Benjamin Conn, her sister, Georgianna () (Conn) Whaley, as well as her infant son, Christopher Kelly Kinnamon.
Immediate family celebrating her release from this world are her son, Roger William Kinnamon of Centerville, Deborah Ann Kinnamon and her husband Zane (MN) Klein of Harris, MO, Rebecca Sue Kinnamon and her partner David Scot Winterton and their son, Dain Torger Winterton, State Center, IA, and Constance Kay (Kinnamon) Fava and her husband, Robert Joseph Fava of West Des Moines, Iowa.
Helen was educated in the Centerville Community Schools, (words on any other education/certification). In addition to being a fierce mom, she worked at Sondra's Dress Shop, Kelly's Dentistry, (other) and retired from Union Carbide/Viskase in (year) after (x) years of service.
In her younger years, Helen played shortstop for the championship winning Belloma Fruit Company Softball Team and was an award-winning bowler. She loved comedy, jokes, all music, was an avid Bluegrass Music fan, and won awards for her harmonica playing, which she had done since learning the craft in elementary school. She loved her family of birth and her family of choice, enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, bingo, playing Wii bowling with her grandson, Dain. Going to casinos and was a life-long member of the Appanoose County Democrats. She and her husband Bill spent many hours fishing.
Especially cherished are memories of trips to the Badlands, New Orleans, the Ozarks, a St. Louis Cards baseball game, family reunions, camping at Lake Rathbun, 'movie nights' Helen's family has been comforted by staff at Mercy Hospice and also through stories of her shared by family and friends in recent weeks. Thank you for telling us your memories of our mother and grandmother; it was a true gift to see her through your eyes.
Funeral services will be held at 10AM Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Lange Funeral Home, Centerville with Pastor Alan Cooper officiating. Friends may call all day Friday with the family present from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A memorial has been established to the Salvation Army or charity of your choice in her name and may be left at the Lange Funeral Home. Condolences may be left online at www.langefh.com. Lange Funeral Home is taking care of the Kinnamon family at this time.
