Dayna Maxine Van Dorn, age 49 of Centerville, Iowa died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Dayna was born on November 8, 1960, the daughter of Max and Marjorie (Cornett) Barber in Centerville. After graduating from high school, Dayna enrolled in the RN program at Indian Hill's Community College. Upon graduation, she worked as a nurse for the Appanoose County Public Health Department for several years. Dayna also worked for the Zelpha Price Group Home. She thoroughly enjoyed working with both elderly and disabled patients during her nursing career. Dayna took pride in the fact that she was very close to her coworkers.
She became united in marriage to Gary Strickler and to this union, her daughter April Jill Strickler was born. She would later divorce and marry Richard Van Dorn and to this union, sons Ryan and Zach Van Dorn were born. Dayna later divorced.
She enjoyed numerous activities in her free time, including camping at Lake Rathbun and cat fishing with worms. Dayna loved her dog Reece. Most importantly, she loved her children more than anything else in the world.
Dayna is survived by her children April Jill Strickler (Kenny Crawford) of Promise City, Iowa, Ryan Derek Van Dorn of Louisville, Kentucky, and Zach Jacob Van Dorn of Centerville; her parents Marjorie Barber and Max (Matilda) Barber all of Centerville; and two brothers, Terry Barber (Monica Blizek) and Mike Barber (Emily Micetich) all of Centerville. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Clarence and Dorothy Cornett and Edgar and Esther Barber.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Monday, April 26, 2010 at the Lange Funeral Home in Centerville. Burial will follow in the Haines Cemetery north of Centerville, Iowa. A visitation will be held Sunday from 1-8 pm at Lange Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the family and may be left at or mailed to Lange Funeral Home. Condolences may be left online at www.langefh.com.
