Howard Gorden Burkland, age 55, of Brunswick, Missouri died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
He was born May 4, 1955 at Centerville the son of Howard and Anna Gorden Burkland. He graduated from Moulton-Udell High School. Moulton, Iowa. He was married to Rhonda Rigg Vink and later divorced, he later married Cathy Wilhite Hansen and later divorced. Gorden first started out his career as the janitor at the Udell School, then worked for Baxter Box Factory and Iowa Steel and Wire. His true calling was with the railroad. He worked for Norfolk and Southern Railroad for 35 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way, International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Gorden was an avid gun collector and attended gun shows every weekend. He also loved to travel. He was a member of Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Surviving are 5 children Eric Burkland of Pella, Iowa, Mollee Burkland of Moulton, Meggan Burkland of Muscatine, Josh Hansen of Plant City, FL, Ben Hansen of Moulton, Iowa, grandchildren Andrew and Paige Burkland of Pella, sisters Agnes (Jim) Bear of Waterloo, Jewel (Larry) Thompson of Moulton, Rick (Becky) Burkland of Udell and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Anna, grandparents Lester and Lola (Boyer) Gorden, Irene Horstman, Albert and Maurine (Terpening) Burkland.
Funeral services will be held 10AM Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church in Centerville with Pastors Robert Pick and Brian Hargrave officiating. Friends may call all day Monday at Lange Funeral Home, Centerville with the family present from 6-8PM.
Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Unionville, IA. A memorial has been established to Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church and may be left at the Lange Funeral Home. Condolences may be left online at www.langefh.com
