Corinne DeVaun (Dold) French, age 89 of Centerville, Iowa passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside on Sunday, January 02, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.

Corinne was born September 22, 1921 in Coppock, IA to Ronald and Elizabeth (Carpenter) Dold. She graduated from Winfield High School and received her teaching certificate from Iowa Wesleyan College. Corinne taught for a few years before being united in marriage to John French in Marsh, IA on November 5, 1942. She worked for a time at a jewelry store in Dallas, TX while Johnnie was stationed at Love Field during WWII. They moved to Sewal, IA in 1946 where they raised their three daughters. The couple moved to Centerville in 1965, where Corinne was an active member of Centerville First United Methodist Church and the Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her family and friends, reading, quilting, crocheting, and participating in church groups.

Corinne is survived by her sisters, Gwendolyn (Vern) Peterson of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Vivian Rappenecker of Burlington, IA; daughters, Joyce Cottrell of Salt Lake City, UT, Jan (Jim) Thomas of Centerville, IA, and Judy (Randy) Stafford of Albia, IA; ten grandchildren, Dan (Lang) Cottrell, Connie Cottrell, Scott (Emily) Cottrell, Stacie Cottrell, all of Salt Lake City, UT, Greg (Leanne) Thomas of Adel, IA, Brenda (Tim) Wegge of Burlington, WI, Jeff (Denise) Thomas of West Des Moines, IA, Jennifer (Mike) Thomas-Lennie of Centerville, IA, Jerry (Maura) Stafford of Van Meter, IA and Brian (Mindy) Stafford of Albia, IA; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Johnnie; parents, Ronald and Elizabeth; two brothers-in-law, Ed Rappenecker and Norval (Bud) Hinshaw; and a sister-in-law, Irene Hinshaw.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Centerville First United Methodist Church with Pastor Terra Amundson officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Lange Funeral Home in Centerville with family present from 6-8 p.m. A memorial has been established to the Centerville First United Methodist Church, Sewal Community Center or Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary and may be left at or mailed to the Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa 52544.
