George Edward Hess

George Edward Hess, age 88, passed away October 24, 2018, at CHI-Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs. George was one of eleven children, born to the late Guy A. and Orella J. (Gram) Hess. He was born August 3, 1930, near Peru, Iowa in Madison County. After attending school in Truro Iowa he farmed until the age of 20. He then joined the US Navy in 1950. After basic training he joined the USS Juneau Ship, serving during the Korean Conflict. He later transferred to Japan for two years before his discharge on October 24, 1954. He later farmed and drove trucks, retiring in 2000. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Edith Kay Hess; daughters, Cynthia Diana Hess and Rita Kay Hess; siblings, Guy, Boyd, Billy, Mack Hess, Fredia, Georgia and Lois. George is survived by his children, Tina M. Murdoch, Scott E. (Christine) Hess, Gregory M. (Lisa) Hess; grandchildren, Stephen M. (Ashley) Burke, and their children Brooke and Brianna, Markala M. and Martina B. Murdoch, Kira E. Hess-Janke (Josiah), Michael E. and Lauren J . Hess, Kirsti L. Hollingsworth (Josh) and their son, Gabriel, Tel-Michael G. Hess, Ian A. Hess, Zachary E. Hess; sister, Mary Siefkas; brother, Leonard D. (Nancy) Hess; numerous nieces and nephews.
