Cpl. Anthony Nimtz
November 26, 1995 - October 23, 2018

Cpl. Anthony John Nimtz, 22, formally of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018, in Hawaii. He was born on November 26, 1995, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Doug and Pamela Hunold Nimtz. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 2014. Following high school, he took the next step in realizing his dream of becoming a United States Marine. He was inducted into the Marine Corps on June 9, 2014, and shipped out to San Diego, California for boot camp. Following boot camp, he was sent to Biloxi, Mississippi for his further training. Upon completing his M.O.S. training, he was stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii as a METOC Analyst Forecaster. On August 29, 2015, he was united in marriage to Olivia Fowler, and they set up a home in Kaneohe Bay, HI. He loved the fact that realizing his dream of becoming a Marine presented him many opportunities that most people never have. He was proud to be a Marine and his servant heart and expert marksmanship made him a good Marine. Anthony was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. He was a server and Eucharistic Minister for many years at the church. He was always willing to raise his hand and volunteer to help those around him. Family was a huge priority for Anthony, he would make it a point to visit everyone in his family when he was home on leave. He enjoyed working on cars and was a talented mechanic.

His family includes his wife, Olivia Nimtz Fowler of Charleston, South Carolina; his parents; Doug and Pamela Nimtz of Oskaloosa; his brother: Taylor (Katelynn) Nimtz of Newhall, Iowa; his sister, Cassie Nimtz of Oskaloosa; his maternal grandparents, Eugene and Shirley Hunold of Houghton, Iowa; his paternal grandfather, Maurice Nimtz of Sigourney; aunt and uncles, Brian and Patty Nimtz of Oskaloosa, Shari and Dave Naughton of Des Moines, and Amy and Jim Van Gundy of Carlisle; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Julie Nimtz.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Thomas Spiegel officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Military Rites will be provided by the Honor Guards of the Marine Corps, Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin after 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 4:30-8:00 p.m. Friday evening to greet friends and relatives. The Rosary will be prayed on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to Honoring Our Fallen and Stephen's Memorial Animal Shelter.
