Betty Hubbell
February 11, 1931 - October 13, 2018

Betty Hubbell, 87, of Ottumwa and formerly of Beacon, died Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Vista Woods Care Center in Ottumwa. She was born February 11, 1931, in Fremont, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Ada Ellen Whitmer Yeoman. She attended school at Highland Country School near Fremont, and later Webster Elementary in Oskaloosa. She attended high school at Oskaloosa Senior High. On October 20, 1946, she was united in marriage to Leo Hubbell at Oskaloosa. Leo died April 28, 2005. She worked for Mahaska Hotel in the office and sold coupons for Bonds Studio. In addition, she was a housekeeper for various families in the community. Betty later went to work for Independent Living where ill health forced her to retire in 2014. She was a member of the V.F.W., D.A.V. Auxiliary. She was an active supporter of the Boys Town in Omaha and the Beacon United Methodist Church. She enjoyed collecting bears, traveling, putting puzzles together. She loved helping people especially children. She was proud of the fact that many of the children that grew up in Beacon let her be a part of their lives.

Betty's family includes her three children, Robert (Cheryl) Hubbell of Ottumwa and previously of Oskaloosa, Jim (and fiancée Marsha Snyder) Hubbell of Ottumwa, and Dixie (William) Day; a sister, Rosemary Riley of Ottumwa; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Kenneth Yeoman; two sisters, Viola Rosenboom and Virginia Smith; a grandson, Adam Hubbell; and a great grandson, Scottie Reddy.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa. Burial will be in the Beacon Cemetery west of Beacon. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Tuesday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5:00-8:00 Tuesday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to Independent Living which Betty held close to her heart.
