Betty Jean Dixson

Betty Grant Dixson, 91, passed away on October 8, 2018 at Green Hills Retirement Community in Ames. A celebration of life funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, at First United Methodist Church, 516 Kellogg Ave, Ames, Iowa. Burial will take place at a later date.
Betty was born April 19, 1927 in Guthrie Center, Iowa. Her parents were Loyd and Velma (Wilson) Grant. She moved to Ames, Iowa in 1938 with her family and graduated from Ames High school in 1944. She attended Drake University, where she studied voice.
On October 8, 1949 she married Donald L. Dixson. They raised two children; Cheryl Dixson Hurst, and Jeffrey Grant Dixson.
While living in Crystal Lake, Illinois Betty was director of music for the Methodist church. Upon Donald's retirement they moved to Palm Harbor, Florida, where she directed a women's choral group. In 2010 she moved back to Ames, Iowa to be near her son and family, and once again directed a choral group at the Green Hills Retirement Community.
Betty is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Kenneth) Hurst; son Jeffrey (Dani) Dixson; two granddaughters Hayley (Ethan) Mitchell, Lauren Dixson and one great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister Cleone (Grant) Ullestad.
