Richard Joseph Dyer
March 7, 1931 - November 13, 2018

Richard "Dick" Joseph Dyer, age 87, of Madrid, formerly of Elkhart, passed away on November 13, 2018 at the Madrid Home. Born on March 7, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the son of Frank and Agnes (Kaltenheuser) Dyer. Dick grew up in Elkhart and graduated from Elkhart High School in 1950. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served for two years. Dick was united in marriage to Veda Kendig on April 4, 1959 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elkhart. Dick worked for Qualis as a packaging machine operator, retiring in 1995. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elkhart. In his spare time, Dick enjoyed playing cards, making wood crafts, attending dances with Veda, and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Dick is survived by his wife, Veda of Madrid; daughter, Kathy (Bill) Steig of Madrid; son, Steve (Jean) Dyer of Madrid; grandchildren: Darcy and Eric Steig, and Joe and Lillian Dyer all of Madrid; a sister, Irene Moon-Toncar of Altoona; three brothers: Pat (Sandy) Dyer of Knoxville, Tom (Korky) Dyer of Ankeny, and Mike Dyer of Ankeny; and a sister-in-law, Teresa Dyer of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jack Dyer. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, November 16, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elkhart with Fr. Andrew Windschitl as celebrant. Friends may call at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Elkhart after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday, November 15, 2018 where there will be a Christian Wake Service held at 6:30 P.M.
