Merrill White
December 3, 1931 - November 28, 2018

Merrill Edwin White was born December 3, 1931 in Logan, West Virginia. The oldest of 4 children Merrill grew up in rural West Virginia fostering an acute appreciation of the outdoors with an emphasis on astronomy, hiking, boating and nature. After graduating from Logan High School in 1948, Merrill immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force (USAF) stationed at Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, TX serving two tours as a radio operator until his honorable discharge in 1957. After a brief stent as a civilian Merrill re-entered the military this time fulfilling his passion for the sea by joining the United States Coast Guard where he served as a Radioman with distinction from 1961-65. Finally finishing his career after serving 3 tours back in the USAF as a Procurement Supervisor he retired from military life for good in 1970 as a SSgt (E5). Merrill traveled the world in the military from Hawaii to the Philippines to stateside duty stations in Arizona, Florida, Mississippi, Ohio and Texas to name a few. As a civilian he worked as a skilled factory laborer throughout the United States as his wandering soul carried him to may scenic destinations throughout America. A voracious reader of literature, an amateur radio operator, a budding astronomer and a dedicated outdoorsman Merrill led a complete life retiring back in San Angelo, Texas fairly close to where his military career all started in Fort Worth, TX. Merrill was proceeded in death by his father, Merle White; his Mother, Ruby Freeman-White; his sister, Aretta White-Phiropoules; his brother, James White; and his sister Vendetta White-Salvati. He is survived by his niece, Rebecca Salvati-Stephens; and nephew, Nicholas Salvati. Merrill's remains will be interned at Riverside National Veterans Cemetery in Riverside, CA. Arrangements are by West Texas Cremation.
