Janice Cobler
June 19, 1956 - November 25, 2018

Oskaloosa. Janice Cobler, 62, of Oskaloosa died Sunday, November 25, 2018, at her home in Oskaloosa. She was born June 19, 1956 in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the daughter of Marion and Johanna Van Kalkeren Van Hemert. She graduated from Pella High School with class of 1975. On September 6, 1977, Janice was united in marriage to Ted DeJoode in Pella. To this union three sons were born, Timothy, Andrew, and Christopher. Janice and Ted later divorced. She worked various jobs in the area including, Central Park Café, Hardees, and Pamida. Her last job was at 3M in Knoxville where she retired due to ill health in 1993. Janice was active in Boy Scouts with her sons. She gave selflessly of her time and talents to many organizations, including volunteer work with the Diabetic Hospital in Topeka, Kansas as well as the Food Pantry in Topeka, and Share Iowa in Oskaloosa. She was also very active in her church. She was always willing to help with activities that were happening at church and in the community. She was an active member of the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa.

Her family includes her three sons, Timothy DeJoode, Andrew DeJoode, and Christopher DeJoode; a brother and his wife, Lloyd and Anna Rae Van Hemert of Oskaloosa; Cheryl Eissens; and a niece and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother John VanHemert.

A memorial service will be held Friday, November 30, 2018, at 11 a.m. in the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa. As was her wish her body has been cremated. Burial of the urn will be at a later date in the Oakwood Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Thursday after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to American Diabetic Association.
