Sandra Ulveling, age 82, of Carroll, formerly of Breda, died Saturday, January 19, 2019 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019 at St. John Paul II Parish - Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Kevin Richter. Con-Celebrant will be Fr. Gary Snyder. Music will be by Dr. Franklyn Busby and the Holy Spirit Resurrection Choir. Mass Server will be Jack Ulveling. Lectors will be Dr. Robert Langenfeld and Tom Collison. Gift Bearers will be Dr. Robert and June Langenfeld and Sharon and Tom Collison. Casket Bearers will be Kirk Ulveling, Kraig Ulveling, Kent Ulveling, Kyle Ulveling, Wayne Pick, Darrell Henkenius, and Patrick Gradoville. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Breda.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Friday. There will be a Rosary at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Saturday morning, where visitation will continue from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

Sandy, the daughter of Felix and Bernadette (Conroy) Langenfeld, was born on March 14, 1936 at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. She grew up in Carroll and graduated from St. Angela's Academy in 1954. Sandy then enrolled with the St. Anthony School of Nursing in Carroll, and graduated in 1957.
On August 10, 1957, Sandy was united in marriage to Jim Ulveling at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple made their home in Breda, where Sandy was a devoted wife and mother to Jim and their seven children. Sandy was also a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, St. Bernard's Ladies Guild, the Breda American Legion Auxiliary, and the St. Anthony's Nurses Alumni Association. In addition, Sandy served a distinguished career as a nurse at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll and the Carroll Manor. In 2013, Sandy and Jim moved to Carroll due to health reasons and joined St. John Paul II Parish. They cherished their Breda memories and continued to consider it "home".
Sandy enjoyed trips to Okoboji with great friends, playing bridge with her card group, and traveling. One of her most memorable trips was with Jim and their close friends for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. They took a few weeks traveling by car from Breda to the Pacific Coast and then to the Atlantic Coast. Sandy's greatest joys in life were her family and grandchildren. Sandy truly led the perfect example of the importance of faith, family, friends and service to others.
Left to celebrate Sandy's life is her husband Jim Ulveling of Carroll; children: Kirk Ulveling of Cedar Rapids, Kraig (Michelle) Ulveling of Red Wing, MN, Kelley (Wayne) Pick of Oyens, Kerry (Darrell) Henkenius of Carroll, Kent (Michele) Ulveling of Cary, NC, Kristy (Patrick) Gradoville of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, Kyle (Onica) Ulveling of Carroll; 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; her siblings: Dr. Robert (June) Langenfeld of Carroll, and Sharon (Tom) Collison of Halbur; sister-in-law: Mary Ann (Dale) Huegerich of Exira; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives and friends.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents: Felix and Bernadette Langenfeld, and Jim's parents: Francis and Ione Ulveling.
