Walter Lee Dyer
January 16, 1929 - March 9, 2019

Walter Lee Dyer, LT. Col., USAF Ret., went to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the age of 90. A Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Harper Funeral Home. A Celebration of life will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Harper Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Mike McCravy officiating. Military Honors will be performed at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens following the service. Walter was born on January 16, 1929 in Del Rio, Texas to A.J. and Edna Dyer. After graduating from Del Rio High School, Walter received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University. He was a member of Texas A&M Corps, graduating 2nd Lieutenant, class of 1952. While stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, he met and later married his beautiful wife, June Butler, on May 31, 1958. Together they raised four children while serving where the Air Force called. San Angelo became home upon Walter's retirement in 1974. Walter enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, woodwork, and tinkering with anything that could be restored or repaired. Before serving full time as "All Star Grandad", he enjoyed scooting his bride around the dance floor surrounded by his friends of the La Paloma Dance Club. His grandchildren will never know the love of a greater fan. Grandad wanted nothing but the best for his family in all they pursued. There was never a day his family questioned Walter's love and support. Walter lived a faithful life with courage, integrity, purpose, and love. He had a heart for people and a hand for those in need. He is preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers; Frank, G.L., and Roy Lane Dyer. Walter is survived by his wife of 60 years, June, his children; Nona and Alvin Kennedy of San Angelo, Janice and Wade Rathmell of San Angelo, Roy and Amy Dyer of Rochester, Minnesota, and Rex and Beth Dyer of Peoria, Illinois, his grandchildren; Royce and Vanessa Kennedy, Colton and Cassi Rathmell, Rachel Rathmell, Karley Dyer, Cole Dyer, and Lindsey and Jadin Dyer. Thank you to our many special friends and wonderful caregivers at Sagecrest and St. Gabriel's Hospice Care. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
