In loving memory of

Arnold Duane Halverson
June 10, 1936 - May 28, 2009

Arnold "Arnie" Duane Halverson went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2009, surrounded by his family at Meriter Hospital.   Arnold was born in Stoughton on June 10, 1936 the son of the late Gilbert and Grace (Johnson) Halverson.   He graduated from Stoughton High School before joining the Navy in 1956.   On March 26, 1957 he married Judith Ann (Havey/Huppert) at McFarland Lutheran Church.   He was raised on the Family Homestead and later built a house for his family on part of that land.   Arnie had a lifelong career as a Truck Driver, starting at Bulk Transportation then onto Gateway and retiring with Forway. Throughout his career he was an avid Teamster member of the Local 695. He was also an Honorary Member of the American Legion Post #534.   In the late 70's they built a cabin in Oxford, WI where nearly every weekend was filled with friends and laughter.   After retirement Arnie enjoyed part-time work with Air Temperature, delivering equipment on many cross-country road trips with his wife, Judy.   Arnie took pleasure and pride in his yard using his riding lawn mower, meeting people, going for drives, playing euchre and sharing stories over a cold one with family and friends. Arnie enjoyed being an understanding father and grandfather. Spending time with his grandkids brought him the most joy.   He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.     Arnie is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Judy; three children, Debi (Dan) Hayden of Edgerton, Sharon (Tim) Zak of Milwaukee and Steve (Rhonda) Halverson of Madison; grandchildren, Joe and Angie Humphrey, Randee and Christopher Prather, and Hunter and Ally Halverson; two great-grandchildren, Katrina and Bryley; and one brother, Jim ( Sharon) Halverson.   He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Grace; and brother, Gerald Halverson.   Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home, 5801 Hwy 51, McFarland with Rev. Richard Dowling officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will follow at Upper McFarland Cemetery with military rites.

"Dear Judy, Steve, Rhonda and all your family. I'm so truly sorry for your great loss. Arnie was one of a kind and it was my pleasure to share a few laughs with him during the hang out times in your garage. He had a good sense of humor and a most pleasent demeanor. I'm praying for Arnies loved one's for you are surely in need during your time of grief and sorrow. Arnie is with the Lord now, for it is written in the Bible that "To be absent from our earthly bodies is to be present with the Lord". I hope you will take comfort in knowing that.
