In loving memory of

Gale T Love
June 29, 1946 - April 15, 2019

Gale Timothy Love passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 16, 2019. Gale leaves behind his wife of 34 years, Diane Love; his sister, Glenda (Don) Ashley; twin brother, Dale (Jan) Love; uncle Glenn Love; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Don & Myldred Love; brother, Gene Love; and partner in crime and nephew, Zachary Monthei. He was loved by everyone he met and never knew a stranger.

Gale was born and raised an Iowan, born in Des Moines and growing up in Ames. Gale lived a busy, exciting life during his 72 years. He served in the Navy during his high school years, before moving to Denver, Colorado, then coming back to Ames, working in Printing Services and Publications at Iowa State University. Gale operated the shot clock at Iowa State basketball games for 17 years, living a full life as a Cyclone. He joined the Ames Elks Lodge serving as a Past Exulted Ruler and a member of the American Legion in Ames, IA. Also known as "Love Cat", by his Train Bell Resort Family, he looked forward to every Fourth of July spent with his friends in Minnesota. He enjoyed his beloved corvette, car shows, Iowa State Athletics, and being outside with his friends and family boating, skiing, and shooting off fireworks. He loved to read magazines, newspapers, and frame beautiful art.

Anyone who met Gale quickly became a friend through his witty jokes and lovable demeanor. Gale battled cancer for many years, which ultimately took him from his friends and family. No matter what Gale battled, he greeted everyone with the same lovable spirit that he spread through his last days.

A visitation will be held Friday, April 19th from 4-6pm with a funeral service to follow. All services will be held at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way Ames, IA. In honor of his military service in the Navy, he will be laid to rest at the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter, IA, Wednesday, April 24th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials received will be donated to the William R. Bliss Cancer Center at Mary Greeley.

His stories will live on through his friends, family, and everyone blessed by his presence. He was quick with one liners and our favorite is, "What's the difference between a duck? One leg's both the same."
