"Jerry and nancy i am so sorry for your loss and i will keep your family in my prayers. I do wish i had seen shawn as grown man but my memory is shawn as a smiling baby boy. "

" Shawn was a wonderful, quiet, funny, and compassionate person. Although he appeared to be the typically guy with his strong interest in sports and cars, he had a gentle soul. He showed it by adopting animals from the shelter and then taking loving care of them. I will always hold dear the image of his smile and the sound of his laugh in my heart. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. Aunt Debbie "

Elinor Glynn wrote on Feb 21, 2011:

"Shawn was a unique person in his quiet unassuming way. Game days for the Pack or Badgers were high lights for Shawn and he wouldn't move till it was over. He loved his basement setup, for watching games or listening to music, playing foosball or playing pool. It was the get together place. We enjoyed lots of backyard get togethers and grilling out. I'm so glad that his pets have good homes now, because their comfort was always important to Shawn. He was always willing to help us women diagnose problems with our cars, and figure out why those pesky check engine lights came on.Because of snow forecast we might not make it to the services, but know that you have our sincere sympathy and we all will miss a great guy. Sincerely, Elinor Glynn and Lynn Kufahl "

My son was diagnosed when he was 4 years old. My heartfelt sympathies to you all. I will be making additional contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation with Shawn in mind."

"Shawn was a very good friend of mine at West and for several years afterwards. We had lost touch in the last 4-6 years, because I have lived far away. I dearly wish I had looked him up when I was back in Madison recently. Shawn was a truly kind and generous soul. I will always remember him as warm, curious, quick with a joke or story, and always eager to help others. He and I spent long hours building and riding in old cars, and staying out late with friends and cruising on East Wash. We had quite a few adventures around Madison and up at my folks' cottage near Adams, WI. I remember working on carburetors and installing engines in his fun cars ('70 Camaro, '70 Chevelle...), and he helped me on my cars ('68 and '71 Darts) as well. Shawn gave Christine and I a Badgers blanket for our wedding in 1995, which we still use almost every day. I also have fond memories of times at Nancy's and Jerry's old house off Seminole Hwy. I hope you know that Shawn was a gentle and wonderful person, and he will be dearly missed by many people. I sincerely wish I could be at the service tomorrow, and you all and Shawn will be in my thoughts. If anyone would like to talk about Shawn, feel free to contact me. Warmest Wishes, Lou Madsen (and Christine Kaestle), Blacksburg, Virginia"

"Oh Shwan what a void you have left in all of our hearts. I will cherish forever the days I spent sitting with you in the hospital, and will for ever remember you telling me that the first thing you wanted was Diet Orange Crush, and when I brought it to the hospital you drank it you said it was the best thing you had had. You were so much like your Grandma Morgan without a mean bone in your body. I will miss your sense of humor and love for family get togethers. Your pets are in your Aunt Debbies home so don't worry. I love you so much. Your Uncle Mike."
