In loving memory of

Bertha "Bert" Newel
August 11, 1915 - October 20, 2009

Bertha A. "Bert" Newel was born on August 11, 1915 in Madison, the daughter of   Laurent and Anna Marie (Dafflon) Kaeser.   On November 23,1939 she and Frank Newel were married at Holy Redeemer Church in Madison.   Bert worked in retail before starting a family.   Her sons, John and Bill, were born in 1944, and 1946.   After her sons started school, Bert worked for many years as a crossing guard for Midvale School, and Our Lady Queen of Peace School.   She was known affectionately as Mrs. Noodles by her many little friends on "the corner."   Bert spent as much time as possible with her husband, sons, and grandchildren in the north woods of Wisconsin building cabins, planting trees and helping raise grandchildren in P.I. (Presque Isle).   She fearlessly tackled any home improvement project, and made the best chocolate chip cookies ever.   Bertha is survived by her sons, John (Kathy Witt) Newel,   of Crystal Falls, Michigan, and William (Patricia) Newel, of Presque Isle, Wisconsin; grandchildren; Jason Newel (Jen Ehrlich), Ernie Newel (Leah Opsal), Rebecca (Walter) Kozuszek, Daniel   (Jenny) Newel, and Debra   (Greg   Hrncirik) Newel;   great grandchildren Adam and Matthew Newel; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.   She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank in 1990, her brothers, Ernest and John Kaeser, brother-in-law Raymond Newel, sisters-in-law, Frances Newel, Claire Kaeser, and Alice Kaeser.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Drive Madison, WI on Monday, October 26, 2009, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of service.   A luncheon will be serviced immediately following the Mass.   The family would like to thank the staff at Bertha's home at Oakwood Village West and Associated Physicians Clinic for their excellent care, and also her nieces Connie and Teena for their loving care for "Aunt Bert."   Memorial contributions may be made in Bertha's name to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital, P.O Box 50 Memphis, TN   38101-9929.
