Bernard J. Pregler
April 14, 1918 - July 20, 2010

Madison-Bernard J. Pregler, age 92, died peacefully Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Belmont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Madison. Bernie was born on April 14, 1918 in Madison. He was the youngest child of Martin and Louisa (Gross) Pregler. He attended St. James School and later attended night school for his high school diploma. He married Agnes Schnurbusch on June 8, 1940 in Nashua, IA. They lived in McFarland for many years, moving to Madison in June of 1959. He was a plumber repairman for over 50 years. In the past, he worked for Henry J. Pertzborn Plumbing, W.F. Butler Plumbing and then owned B L Plumbing Repair business for 15 years. Bernie also taught plumbing repair night classes at MATC and  for several years in Baraboo. He was very proud to have served his country in the Navy during WW II as a radio repair specialist and submarine repairman. He was a past Commander of the Edwards-Foye American Legion Post 534, McFarland and also was a member in good standing of the Forty and Eight. Bernie is survived by his son, James B. (Jane) Pregler, Clearfield, UT; son-in-law, Dennis Johnson, Madison; grandchildren, Denise (Steve) Anderson, Kevin, Michelle & John Pregler; great-grandchildren, Tanner J. Pregler and Savin Van Sickle; sisters, Frances Dotzenrod, Walworth & Mary Susan Spoerl, Madison; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on Sept. 15, 2007, daughter, Ethel Ann Johnson, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cress Funeral Home-East, Madison. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Madison Area Veterans Firing Squad at Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona. Friends may call on Monday July 26, 2010 at the funeral home from 12:00 (noon) until the time of service.

A precious one has left us,

A voice we loved is stilled.

An empty place is in our lives,

That never can be filled.

God saw him getting weary,

And did what seemed the best.

Just came and stood beside him,

And whispered .......come and rest.
