Solomon Basford Sage III
February 28, 1931 - October 4, 2010

"Sol" Sage III, age 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 4, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital.   He was born on Feb. 28, 1931 the son of Clara and Solomon Basford  Sage Jr. in Downing, WI.  Sol graduated from St. Olaf College in 1953 with a degree in Economics.   He served his country as a   Lt.   in the US Navy from 1953 until 1958 and received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. After his time in the Navy Sol worked as an insurance agent in California and   Wisconsin , and later as an Insurance Adjustor for the State of Wisconsin.   Sol loved life, and was a very active and independent person. He enjoyed boating, cars, and was known by many at Oakwood for his computer knowledge, and was always very helpful with the other residents computer questions and problems.   Sol thoroughly enjoyed the last decade of his life at Oakwood. He was a very sociable person and enjoyed many events and functions with his Oakwood Family.   Sol was a devoted and active member of Midvale Community Lutheran Church. He is survived by his loving daughters, Leah Shea, and Karen Sage, niece Linda, nephew Tom and their families, cousins, and many dear friends at Oakwood West.   Sol was preceded in death by his parents, Clara and Solomon Jr., and   sister and brother-in-law, Marcheta and Harlan Bixby.       A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME,   3610 Speedway Rd., Madison.    A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am at MIDVALE COMMUNITY LUTHERAN   CHURCH,   4329 Tokay Blvd. on Friday, October 8, 2010, with visitation from 10 am until the time of service.   The family would like to give a special thank you to the doctors and staff of St. Mary's Hospital for their loving and compassionate care through the years.   Also the family thanks the residents and staff of Oakwood for their friendship and the many friends that Sol made their will never be forgotten.    Sol will be greatly missed by his family, and all that had the honor and pleasure of being part of his life.
