George Forrest Clark
October 21, 1947 - February 14, 2019

George F. Clark, Jr. of Wilmington, NC passed away after a lengthy illness on Feb. 14th, 2019. Services will be held July 27th at 11am at Stevens Memorial Chapel, followed by burial in the Ames Municipal Cemetery with military rites.

George Forrest Clark, Jr. was born on Cot. 21, 1947 to Alice Gaynell Gabrielson Clark and George Forrest Clark in Ames, IA. He grew up on a farm east of Ames. He attended North Grant School and Ames schools, graduating from Ames High in 1965. After high school, George worked for Armstrong Tractor and J D Armstrong, working on the building of I-35 east of Ames.

In his younger years, George was active on his father's dairy farm, helping with the daily farming and raising livestock. He was a member of the Grand Toppers 4-H club, in which he showed dairy and beef calves. He had a mechanical mind which served him well through his life. He was confirmed at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames in 1962.

George joined the U S Army in Feb. 1967. After boot camp he was stationed at Ft. Snelling, MN, Dong Ha, South Vietnam, and then Fort Bliss, TX.

In June of 1967, George was united in marriage to Linda Abegg of Ames. To this union a son, David Patrick Clark was born.

In 1971, George was honorably discharged from the Army and the family moved to Tulsa, OK, where he pursued an associate's degree in Airframe/Power plant at Spartan Aeronautical School. After graduation, George received his license as an A&P mechanic required by FAA.

Over the years the family moved several times in pursuit of better jobs and great experiences. After living in VA, CO, and UT the family moved to Wilmington, NC where George decided to start a career of independent over the road truck driving, which allowed him to see all of the parts of this great country he had never seen and which also enabled him to see his family in Iowa more often.

George was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Debbie. He is survived by his wife Linda and son David of Wilmington, NC, his brother Paul of Story City, IA, and brother Jim of Ames, IA, and aunts and uncles and numerous cousins and a niece and nephew.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VA Hospital/Hospice care in Durham, NC.
