On May 16, 1955 at the Hand Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa a daughter was born to Sterling and Jacqueline (Lorimor) McLaren, she was named Joan Elaine. Joan was raised in the community of Shenandoah where she attended school. She graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1973. She later went on to attend Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.

On November 16, 1973 at the Baptist Church in Malvern, Joan was united in marriage to Derrell Schebaum. The couple made their home in Emerson for a period before moving to Shenandoah. Joan worked for Duffy Randolph for 19 years as an insurance agent. She then worked for Earl May at their corporate office prior to working for McIntyre Realty where she worked as a secretary until obtaining her Real Estate license. She continued her work there as a realtor until moving companies to United Group. She remained there as a broker until her recent retirement.

Joan was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Her and Derrell were avid supporters of all of the grandchildren's activities and spent many hours supporting them from the bleachers! She enjoyed spending time with her family and making those precious memories. She also enjoyed traveling with her sister Shelley and other close friends. Times spent at the lake water skiing and fishing were highlights of her summer. She also enjoyed special times with her family hunting.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Harold and Elaine Lorimor and George and Gail McLaren, her parents Sterling and Jackie McLaren. Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of almost 45 years Derrell, sons Jason Andrew and Alexander Kells Schebaum, grandchildren Paige Nicole, Sierra Elizabeth, Alexis Elaine, Hunter Thomas and Emma Kaylea Schebaum; and sisters Shelley McLaren and Vickie Woodford as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.
