In loving memory of

Matthew J. McIntyre
March 30, 1983 - July 19, 2019

Matthew Jay McIntyre was born in Shenandoah, Iowa on March 30th, 1983 to Barbara Martin and Tim McIntyre. He passed away unexpectedly on July 19th, 2019 at his home in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  Matt had health issues after a heart attack in 2015.

Matt was raised in Shenandoah where he enjoyed spending time with his cousins , other relatives and friends.  He was loyal to family and friends and cherished the time spent with those who loved him. Matt grew up being involved in sports from a young age. He excelled in football, baseball and basketball while attending school in Shenandoah. Matt was an excellent student and was a graduate of Shenandoah school district as a member of the class of 2002.
Matt was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. God was very important in Matt's life.

Following his graduation from high school, Matt attended Iowa Western Community College where he received an Associate Degree in 2004. He then attended Bellevue University graduating Summa Cum Laude with his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice in 2006. Following his graduation, Matt worked in various management positions in his chosen field.

Matt had a quick wit and great sense of humor. He enjoyed a good discussion of various subjects he was committed to, often related to politics, racial inequality, world events and religion. He also loved sports, music, concerts and his cat Molly. Homelessness , mental health issues and animals were a big concern of Matt's. He was adamant that depression and anxiety as well as any other mental health issues be treated as a disease-not a stigma.

Matt was preceded in death by grandparents Berkly and Rosalyn Martin and uncles Michael Martin and Stan Almeida. Close friend Jarrod Maher passed away bravely serving his country. Grandparents Richard and Dorothy McIntyre also preceded Matt in death.

He leaves behind his beloved mother, Barb as well as his aunts Deb Almeida and Teresa Davis. Matt also leaves those considered as siblings: Jamie (Zach) Smiley, Anthony (Ann) Almeida, Katie (Dan) Coil, Mitchell Almeida and their families as well as Brian Davey. Survivors also include father Tim (Terri) McIntyre, uncles Rick McIntyre, Steve McIntyre,  John McIntyre and families.  Matt leaves behind many other relatives and friends.

Matt wanted everyone treated with kindness and frequently said "be kind to everyone you meet as you have no idea what struggles they are facing."

A memorial mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 29, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family. Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
