In loving memory of

Pecolia J. Walker
February 7, 1937 - August 4, 2019

Pecolia J. Walker was born on February 7, 1937 - the daughter of Alve Jamison and Mary Lucy Jamison in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Pecolia attended Warrior School in Tate County, MS up to the 9th grade. Pecolia united in holy matrimony to George L. Walker on August 3, 1953. To this union five children were born. Pecolia was a committed, hard working wife and mother.

Pecolia was affectionately known to most as "Pete" or "Aunt Pete". Pecolia accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptised around the age of 11 at Chulahoma M.B. Church in Marshall County, MS. She and George later moved to Indianapolis, IN around 1954. There they became members of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Richard Gregory, now called Promise Land Christian Community Church under the pastorship of Richard E. Willoughby. Pecolia served as head of the kitchen committee, a member of the usher board, vice president of the missionary board, and founded the annual Old Fashioned Day celebration in the early 90's. Old Fashioned Day was meant to pay tribute to southern church homecomings that she and many of her family and friends participated in growing up in the south. And the celebration continues annually at the church.

Pecolia was a homemaker most of her life with the exception of working periodically as a nanny and housekeeper. Being one of few stay at home moms, she took responsibility for all the neighborhood children. She made sure they got to and from school, opened her home as a safe haven, and dished out discipline when necessary. She was known to many as "mom". And though she only stood 5'4", her voice was loud and her presence was strong. She was loved and respected by many.

Pecolia went home to be with the Lord on Sunday August 4, 2019, at the age of 82. Her parents and her husband preceded her in death. Four siblings also preceded her in death; Mable King, Cab "CJ" Jamison, Rand "Shot" Jamison, and Alve "June" Jamison Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory: sons, Edwin "Eric" Walker (Virginia), Michael A. Walker (Kristen); daughters, Daron L. Washington, Yvette Walker-Stratton (Anthony), and Mianca Y. Walker; sisters Arressel Young, Lessie Jackson, and Dorsie Sandridge; grandchildren, Quinton P. Walker, Edwin "Matt" Walker (Tosha), Brandon S. Walker (Amanda), Jon C. Walker, Marcus A. Walker (Esperanza), Taylor N. Walker, Payton L. Walker, Rickland L. Brooks, and Logan J. Sweatt; best friend Gladys "Poochie" Jackson; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

"I love this lady. We have shared many memories together. I learned to cook from her and just learned life lessons at a early age. I was so inspired by her and Ivy Jean. . When I went to visit with her it was just like we were playing catch-up on life. She hadn?t forgotten anything. She was still my Pete. Thanks for the memories. I want to express my condolences to all who was touched by Pete. Special condolences to The family. Until we meet again. You are rejoicing in heaven with those that have gone before you. ????"
