Gretchen A. Ziebell
September 15, 1916 - January 26, 2010

Gretchen A. Ziebell, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at HospiceCare in Fitchburg.   She was born September 15, 1916 in Wausau, the daughter of Clifford and Grace (Panabaker) Phelps.   Gretchen was united in marriage to Carl   G. Ziebell   in Wausau on July 15th, 1939.   They shared 65 loving years together.   Carl preceded her in death in February of 2005.   Gretchen and Carl lived most of their lives in Wausau, until retirement when they moved to Madison.   During retirement they lived in Madison and Sarasota, FL, and also traveled extensively throughout the world.   Gretchen was very active and supportive in Carl's business, the Marathon Press in Wausau.   They were active in the Wausau community. She had a flair for fashion and design, and was an excellent cook and hostess. Gretchen was a member of DAR, and First Presbyterian Church in Wausau.   She was a very devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother and had a wonderful sense of humor.   She will be missed by all that had the honor of knowing her.   Gretchen is survived by her loving children, Gretchen (Judge Robert DeChambeau) Hayward, Madison; and Jeffrey (Rosalyn) of Hastings, England; six grandchildren, Stacey (Jeffrey) Zudock, Jeffrey (Melanie) and Jillian (Jayson Preston) Hayward, Jack (Stacy) , Alice, and Thomas Ziebell, and four great-granddaughters; Katherine, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Madeleine.   She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, and a son Daniel.   A memorial celebration of Gretchen's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy., Madison.   The family suggests that memorial contributions in Gretchen's name may be made to HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E. Cheryl Pkwy., Madison, WI   53711.   Gretchen's family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Ansfield, and the staffs of both All Saints Assisted Living and HospiceCare   for their loving and compassionate care.   Gretchen was very thankful for her last years spent at All Saints and for the many friend she made there.
