Mary Frances Hellman was born April 11, 1925 on family farm near Lakota, daughter of John and Maude (McDougle) Farrow. Mary was married to Alfred Hellman on June 1, 1949 at St. John's Catholic Church in Bancroft.
Mary and Alfred farmed their entire married life one mile west of the Farrow Family farm. Alfred preceded her in death December 5, 2000. In 2006, Mary and her daughter Kay moved to Algona. Mary loved spending time with her family especially with her eight grandchildren. She also enjoyed quilting, puzzles, country music, gardening, farm animals, and her dogs Peaches and Rex.
Mary Frances Hellman died peacefully Thursday, March 31, 2011. She was surrounded by her family in the same room she was born in nearly 86 years ago.
She is survived by her five children, Kay Hellman of Algona, Donna Hellman of Algona, Sandra Widen and her husband Jerry of Sioux Falls, SD, Brenda Schiltz and her husband Mike of Algona, and John Hellman and his wife Jan of Lakota; eight grandchildren, Nathan and Bryan Widen of Sioux Falls, SD, Sara Besch of Bancroft, Katelyn Hellman of Fort Worth, TX; Candace Schiltz of Des Moines, Kayla Schiltz of Cedar Falls, Kimberly Schiltz of Algona, and Amanda Hellman of Madison, WI. She is also survived by two brothers, Milton (Beverly) Farrow of Algona and Donald (Leona) Farrow of Swea City; two sisters, Pearl (Gene) Kessel of Lakota, and Shirley (Larry) Lappe of Algona; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alfred; and six brothers and four sisters, Orville, Florence, Rose, Maurice, Irven, Ben, Bud, Hazel, Darlene, and Merwin.
