GORDON R. FAIRBERT

Mr. Gordon Fairbert, of Fredonia Ave., Fredonia, passed away at his residence Tuesday morning, July 12, 2005. He was 75 years old. Gordon was born in Milton, WI on October 14, 1929, son of Arthur and Edna Burhite Fairbert. After receiving his Bachelor's degree in 1952 from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, he entered the United States Marine Corps. Upon completion of his tour of duty, Mr. Fairbert returned to college, completing his Masters degree at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. Gordon was united in marriage with Betty Kusserow on September 4, 1954 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wausau, WI. Mr. Fairbert held a long and distinguished career as an educator in our area. He retired in 1990 as the Director of Instruction and Deputy Superintendent of Schools for the Port Washington - Saukville School District. He was a former principal of Ozaukee Middle School and the Interim Superintendent of Northern Ozaukee School District. Mr. Fairbert was also a former member of Northern Ozaukee School Board and a former member of the Concordia College Board of Regents. Gordon was also very involved with Fredonia Lions, Friends of Concordia, Fredonia Garden Club, the Ozaukee County Area Retired Teachers Association, the Ozaukee County Historical Society, was a former member of the Fredonia Yachtsmen Barbershoppers, chaired the Fredonia Relay For Life for 2 years, sat on the Ozaukee Scholarship Foundation and taught the subject of Flag History to 4th graders on field trips to Stoney Hill School. In addition, Mr. Fairbert was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Fredonia and had been the Choir Director at previous churches that he had attended. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Fredonia, 1 son Randy, also of Fredonia, 2 daughters; Laurie Daggett of Sheboygan Falls and Lisa (Mark) Barrows of Fredonia. He is further survived by three grandchildren: Tracy, Ashley and Johnny, 1 great-grandchild, Talan, 1 brother Roger (Arlene) Fairbert of Marshfield, 1 sister, Grace (Harry) Allworden of Wisconsin Rapids, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends and colleagues. He is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 16th, 11 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fredonia. Pastor Robert Zick and Rev. Arthur Senn will officiate. He will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, on Friday July 15th, from 4-8PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. A second visitation will be held Saturday, from 10-11AM at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, St. John's Building Fund, Concordia University or the Northern Ozaukee High School Scholarship Fund.
