WARREN C. LUFT



Warren Luft, age 84 years of Waubeka died Monday, July 9, 2007 at Columbia St. Mary's Hospital in Mequon. He was born June 7, 1923 on the Luft homestead in the Town of Fredonia, son of Walter and Vera Klein Luft.. He was the fourth generation on the Luft homestead . He served in the U.S. Third Army during WW II in the 11th Armored Division, part of the 575th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. His unit fought in the Battle of the Bulge and liberated Mauthausen concentration camp. On May 21, 1949 he married Dorothy Schlehlein at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fredonia. The couple purchased Stony Hill farm in Waubeka in 1949 and raised Wisconsin Certified seed oats and livestock. He also worked as a mechanic at Schmit Bros. Ford from 1946 until 1980. He was a farmer and mechanic until the time of his death and was currently a member of St. Martin's United Church of Christ in Fillmore and a former member of St. Paul's Community Church in Waubeka. He taught auto mechanic classes for MATC for nearly 30 years and was a carpenter, artist and enjoyed working on old Ford cars and Case tractors. Warren raised Shetland ponies and designed and built the Stony Hill stagecoach for his ponies. He was a member of Waubeka Post 7037 VFW and an Honorary member of the Waubeka Fire Department. Survivors include his wife Dorothy, three children Frederick (Sandra) Luft of Kewaskum, Alan (Nancy Mitchell) Luft of Cambria and Christine Luft of Waubeka, five grandchildren Cassandra Luft, Heidi Luft, Raighne, Kale and Lily Mitchell-Luft , his sister in law Arline Luft , three nephews Wayne, Calvin and Keith Luft , one brother in law Robert (Judy) Schlehlein, numerous other relatives and friends and his special orange cat "Frisky". He was preceded in death by one brother Waldemar Luft. Funeral Monday, July 16, 7 PM at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington with Rev. David Jerger officiating. Burial will be at 11 AM Tuesday at St. Paul's Cemetery in Waubeka with full milita;ry honors. Visitation at the Funeral Home Monday from 4-7 PM with VFW services conducted at 6 PM.
