William R. Posey passed peacefully in his sleep on September 30, 2019 at the Aperion Rehabilitation and Care Center in East Moline, Illinois. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held to honor William on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the New Life Baptist Church, 7780 W. Locust St., Davenport, Iowa. The service will be officiated by the Honorable Bishop Eddie Posey, with a luncheon to follow. William was born in Arkansas and raised there by his grandparents, William and Mary Etta Walker, after the death of his mother at an early age. He then met and married the love of his life, Lula Mae Beard. They remained true to each other for 52 years until her death in January of 2001. William, affectionately known as Grandpa Posey to so many, had a zest for life and an unforgettable smile. His love for family and friends knew no bounds. He was always ready to give whatever he could with an open heart. During the summer, you could find William tending to his beloved garden or sprucing up his lawn. If you didn't find him there, he was either reading the paper, most likely with a Reeses Peanut Butter Cup in hand, or strumming his guitar. And if he wasn't eating peanut butter cups, he'd be raiding the freezer for some ice cream. He was strong willed and had a sassiness about him that you couldn't help but love. Grandpa Posey will be truly missed by his family and friends. May he rest in peace for all eternity. Those left to honor his memory are his son, Larry (Deborah) Posey, Scottsdale, Arizona; honorary son Ray (Michelle) Haynes, Davenport, Iowa; brothers, Luther Posey, Davenport, Iowa and Eddie (Genisse) Posey, Houston, Texas; sister Etta Posey Taylor, Chicago, Illinois; sister-in-law Beulah Posey, Davenport, Iowa; granddaughters, Sandy (Raymond) LaGrange, Kewanee, Illinois and Tisha (Jerry) Hailey, Joliet, Illinois; 4 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. William was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Mary Etta Walker, wife, Lula Mae Beard Posey and brothers, Walker Posey and John Posey. Please send all flowers, cards and condolences to Sandy LaGrange, % Arthur & Rose Arrington, 2025 Belle Ave., Davenport, Iowa 52803. They will be transported from there to the church on the day of the service. Online condolences can be made at Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, Iowa.
