Lois Marie Koesters

Lois Marie Koesters, daughter of George and Vera (Dougal) Stolz, was born on April 27, 1919, on a farm south of Panama, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Mary Catholic Church in Panama. When Lois was very young, the family moved from Panama to Defiance, Iowa, where she took her First Communion at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Lois attended country schools and graduated from St. Paul's Catholic High School in Defiance.

Following high school, Lois worked as a nanny and housekeeper in the area before moving to Omaha, Nebraska, in 1944. There, she worked as a maid and nanny for a physician and his family. On November 28, 1947, Lois married Norbert Anthony Koesters at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Three children were born to this union.

Lois was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling. She was a devoted homemaker and accomplished seamstress who made a lot of clothes and doll clothes for her children. She created hundreds of patchwork quilts over the years, most of which were donated to charity. Beginning in 1969, Lois enjoyed volunteering at the local nursing home, Little Flower Haven, where she outlived most of the residents. She had only recently made her home at Little Flower Haven, and was the oldest resident there.

Lois M. Koesters died on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at Little Flower Haven in Earling, Iowa, having reached the age of 100 years, 5 months, and 4 days.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norbert Koesters, on November 18, 1994; seven brothers; three sisters, and one grandson, Timothy Koesters. She is survived by one son, Gene Koesters of Earling, Iowa; two daughters, Mary (Lloyd) Caswell and JoAnn (Fred) Aliano, both of Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, October 4, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Earling, Iowa, with Father Wayne Gubbels and Father Dan Gehler celebrating. Karen Chamberlain served as the musician. Casket bearers were Tom Koesters, Matt Caswell, Daniel Koesters, David Koesters, Michael Koesters, and Timothy Koesters. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Earling, Iowa. The Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa, was in charge of the arrangements.
