In loving memory of

Linda Robbins
February 7, 2009

On Saturday morning, February 7, 2009, Linda passed away peacefully at her home in Belgium, WI surrounded by her family and friends.  Linda was born on December 11, 1946 and grew up in Fairfax, VA.  She was the middle child of George and Hilda (Foster) Burrier.  In 1965, she married Michael Robbins from Antigo, WI.

The young couple moved from Virginia to Wisconsin in 1966 so that Mike could return for his college education.  For almost 20 years, Linda supported the family while Mike was a student pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  She worked as a waitress, parking attendant, administrative assistant for the U.W. Physical Plant, office manager for the Medical Physics Department at the U.W., and business manager for a small manufacturing company, Radiation Measurements, Inc.  During this time, Linda and Mike welcomed the arrival of their daughter, Michele, and son, Sean, into their lives.  Together with their family, they began a consulting business in 1983, and in 1990 moved to Englewood, Colorado when Mike accepted a teaching position at the University of Denver.  They returned to Wisconsin in 2000 and moved to their Lake Michigan home in Belgium.  For a brief time, Linda and her daughter operated Dinner Helpers in downtown Port Washington.

Linda was passionate about so many things – her family, quilting, gardening, antiques, her Wine Club friends, and most definitely – her grandsons.  “Doe”, as her grandsons called her, had a unique relationship with each of her “Little Men” and was completely devoted to them.  She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life – a walk on the beach, dinner with her family, and roasting marshmallows over a campfire.  Linda touched the lives of many people with her smile and laughter.  Her creative energy and “can do” spirit will be deeply missed.  She found comfort in her faith and was not afraid to leave this world, only sorry that our time together was cut short.  She said that she couldn’t imagine what heaven would be like, because she felt that she had truly experienced “heaven on earth”.

Linda’s immediate family includes her husband, Michael Robbins of Belgium, WI; her son, Sean Robbins and his wife, Kristy of Stoughton, WI; her daughter Michele Norman and her husband, John of Port Washington, WI; and four grandsons, Rowan Norman, Eagan Norman, Calhan Norman, and Emory Robbins.  She is also survived by her sister, Dale Mill of Indialantic, FL and her brother, Larry Burrier of Falls Church, VA.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate Linda’s life on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 2:00 pm at First Congregational Church, 131 N. Webster Street, in Port Washington, WI 53074, phone 262-284-2022.  The family will welcome visitors to the church beginning at 1:00 pm.

It was Linda’s wish that contributions be made to the Memorial Garden of First Congregational Church.  The garden will be open and available to all residents and friends of Port Washington.  This garden is in the early stages of development, and the family would like to encourage donations to this project.  If you would like to make a contribution, please make checks payable to “First Congregational Church” with a memo indicating “Robbins memorial”.

"Mike and family: I am so sorry to hear of Linda's passing when I looked at the St. Luke's UMC, Highlands Ranch website for prayer concerns. I remember the days many years ago when we met at St Luke's to craft and quilt and build a fantastic UMW at our little church. Linda was so wonderful. I know you are missing her. God welcomed her into his heavenly kingdom. God Bless you and your family. I know she loved you all. Mary Gay Godsey"
