Dick Becker, of the Town of Port Washington, passed away at Horizon Hospice Center in Mequon of pancreatic cancer early Sunday morning, August 15, 2010. He was 73 years old. Dick was born in the Town of Port Washington on August 29, 1936, son of Alex and Ruth Gosewehr Becker. He attended elementary school in Belgium and graduated from Port Washington High School before joining the US Army and becoming a paratrooper. When he left the service in 1958, he had achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was united in marriage with Janice Ansay on September 24, 1960 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Port Washington. The couple settled on the family homestead and started farming in 1961. They officially retired in 2007 and moved off the farm. Dick loved to go fishing, deer hunting and turkey hunting. He enjoyed a good game of sheepshead and long drives down quiet country roads. After they retired, Dick and Janice enjoyed several trips out west and to other destinations, including trips back to the old farm to “check up on things.” He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Janice of the Town of Port Washington and his sister Beverly (the late Harold) Bichler of Wheaton, IL. He is further survived by his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Norbert (Nancy) Ansay of Port Washington, John (Winnie) Ansay of Belgium and Dan Ansay of Milwaukee, 4 nieces: Holly Ortmeier, Wendy Sather, special niece Cathy Ansay, Beth Wilson, 7 nephews: Tory Becker, Bruce & Allen Bichler, Mike, William, Jay and David Ansay. Also surviving are special friends Sandra Large and the Dan Large family, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 6PM on Thursday, August 19th at the Eernisse Funeral Home, 171 N. Royal Ave., in Belgium. Father James Ernster will officiate. He will be laid to rest with military honors the next day at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Washington. The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home in Belgium on Thursday from 3-6PM. Memorials are suggested to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Dick’s name.
