Enid Nielsen

Enid Louise Nielsen, the daughter of Melvin and Irene (Peitersen) Boose, was born November 12, 1947, in Atlantic, Iowa and died November 25, 2019, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 72 years and 13 days.
Enid attended the Elk Horn-Kimballton Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1965. Enid received her registered nursing diploma at Jenny Edmundson Memorial Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa in May of 1968.
On June 1, 1968 she was united in marriage to James Nielsen at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa. Three children, Jeff, Marci, and Erika, were born to this union. They lived in Audubon for a short time then moved to Kirksville, Missouri where Jim finished his studies. They then moved to Des Moines, Iowa and Enid was employed at Charter Hospital. In 1979 they moved to Elk Horn, Iowa where Enid worked at Salem Lutheran Homes. She went on to work in home health care and nursing homes in the area before moving to Des Moines in 2001 to be the nanny to her twin grandchildren. She worked at the Kavanagh House for 3 years after that. She continued her career in different areas of health care until retiring this spring.
Enid was a member of Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Iowa. She volunteered in the hospitality groups as well as being part of various bible studies. She was very active in community outreach projects as well as various charity work. Enid was always willing to step in and help someone in need. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking them on many adventures. She also shared her love of the arts with them and taught them the importance of giving to those in need. She loved to garden and always had her hands in the dirt making her daugthter's flower beds beautiful. You could often find her attending a concert or play at the local theaters with friends. She also enjoyed many vacations with friends and family.
Survivors include her children Jeff and wife Sara Nielsen of Grinnell, Iowa, Marci Bertini of Urbandale, Iowa, and Erika Nielsen of Des Moines, Iowa; her grandchildren Melanie Dahlhouser and husband Andy of Waterloo, Iowa, Tye Nielsen of Ames, Iowa, McKenna and Grant Nielsen, Jordan, Ethan, and Luke Walker all of Grinnell, Iowa, Conrae and Amaris Bertini both of Urbandale, Iowa; Her brothers and sisters Steve and wife Ky Boose of Pflugerville, Texas, Ingrid May of Hayes, Kansas, Marty and wife Connie Boose of Atlantic, Iowa, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Enid wanted her life celebrated and rejoiced so in lieu of a funeral the family will meet with friends Friday December 13, 2019 at 11:30 A.M. at the Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, Iowa. Donations can be made to Kavanagh House, Hope Ministries, or Joppa.
