In loving memory of

Helen M. Scholl
January 3, 1917 - May 18, 2011

Helen Marie (Lehnert) Scholl, age 94, passed away at the Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Home in Windom, Minnesota, on May 18, 2011.

Helen was born in Columbus, Ohio, on January 3, 1917, to Rudolph and Mary (Dreiseidel) Lehnert. She was baptized as an infant and later confirmed. She received her education from South High School in Columbus, Ohio, and graduated in the Class of 1935. She then went to work as a telephone operator for AT&T in Columbus until 1939.

On June 14, 1939, Helen was united in marriage to Ludwig Daniel Scholl in the Divinity Hall Chapel at Capital University, Columbus, Ohio, with Ludwig's father, The Reverend Mr. John Daniel Scholl, officiating. This marriage was blessed with two children, Mary Elizabeth and John David. Ludwig was ordained as a Lutheran pastor on July 2, 1939; and just as he was called, Helen was hand-picked, too, for it takes someone special to do what she had to do. She served as a pastor's wife at parishes in Superior, Nebraska; Denver, Colorado; Goodland, Kansas; Coleridge, Nebraska; Kimball, Nebraska; Cozad, Nebraska; Lohman, Missouri; and Delta, Colorado. The couple resided in Loveland, Colorado, upon retirement in 1987.

In September of 2004, Helen and Ludwig moved to Remick Ridge in Windom, Minnesota; and in February of 2007, they became residents together at the Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Home. Ludwig passed away on February 19, 2010. Helen was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom, Minnesota.

Helen enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, reading, crossword puzzles, Scrabble, Pinochle, listening to Bing Crosby, and watching The Perry Mason Show. She was extremely proud to be from Ohio and faithfully followed the Ohio State Buckeyes through the years.

She is survived by daughter Mary (Daniel) Kock, Coleridge, Nebraska; son John (Paige) Scholl, Windom, Minnesota; three grandsons -Jason Kock, Columbus, Nebraska; Jonah Scholl, Acworth, Georgia; Michael (Whitney) Kock, Omaha, Nebraska; one granddaughter, Anya Neppl, Raleigh, North Carolina; two step grandsons, Hunter Johnson, San Diego, California, and Landon Johnson, Windom, Minnesota; three great grandchildren - Chloe Scholl and John Lawson Scholl, Acworth, Georgia; and Samantha Neppl, Raleigh, North Carolina.

Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, The Reverend Mr. Ludwig D. Scholl; her parents; one infant daughter; and two brothers.

Blessed be the memory of Helen Marie Scholl.

A committal of ashes is planned for a later date at the Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Coleridge, Nebraska, with Helen's niece, The Reverend Ms. Danette Johns, officiating.

"I was not fortunate to know Helen personally but her daughter, Mary Kock is now the mother-in-law of my daughter, Whitney as of July 10, 2010 when she married Dan and Mary's son Michael. Through knowing Mary (and Dan and their wonderful sons) I've been given a look into what apparently made Helen the wonderful woman she was. I see, when I look in the eyes of sweet Mary, what evidently made Helen the very embodiment of light, reason and goodness the best of humankind. The light may be gone but her love and influence lives on."

"I really liked her red bird."

"There are many things I'll remember, such as how she never got any Ace's during pinnochle, she always had packets of condiments to hand out during a picnic, playing miniture golf with Grandma and Grandpa in Colorado, her Christmas cookies, and how much she loved visiting Germany/Austria with Grandpa."
