Edgar A. King of North Wales died March 20, 2004, in Mercy Suburban Hospital , Norristown , after an illness. He was 78.
Born in Ambler, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Dorothy (Betz) King.
He served in the U.S. Army from April 1944 until May 1946 in the European Theater, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart in January 1945.
He was dedicated to his family and loved sports, in particular bowling and golf.
He was a grocery store owner who along with his brothers operÂated the former King & Betz store on Lindenwold Avenue in Ambler until it closed in 1978. He worked as a food processor at the former Spring Poultry in Spring House before his retirement.
Mr. King was a faithful memÂber of the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler and was a forÂmer member of the Wissahickon Fire Co. in Ambler.
He is survived by his wife, Beryl J. King; a son, Ronald J. of Pennsburg; a daughter, Cindy Fenstermacher of Dushore; a granddaughter; three brothers, Richard W. of Ambler, Walter S. of Lower Gwynedd, and Gerald E of Hatfield; and four sisters, Betty K. Manuel of Ambler, Elaine F. Benner of Hatfield, Marilyn L. Rubincam of Harleysville and Patricia A. Antell of Lansdale. He was predeceased by five brothers, Frank J. Jr., Charles F., Harold L. Alfred L. and Robert King; and a sister, Dorothy K. Fleck.
Visitation is 10 to 11 a.m. March 24 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ambler, Ridge and Butler avenues, Ambler, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. William J. Kemp will officiate. Interment will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park , Prospectville.
