"Sorry to say I cannot make it to the funeral. I too have many happy memories of going to the Statz family house or to the VFW for picnics. All us kids running around the house while the parents visited. Such happy memories! Don and Sara were exceptional people and I know my mom and dad miss them terribly! "

Waunakee-Seraphine M. Statz, age 75, passed away peacefully after an extended illness surrounded by family on Monday, June 13, 2011 at Homestead Living, Waunakee. She was born on December 7, 1935 in Ashton the daughter of Peter & Seraphine (Meinholz) Ziegler. Seraphine was united in marriage with Donald W. Statz on June 11, 1955 in Ashton. She was a lifelong resident of the Waunakee area. Seraphine was employed with First Wisconsin Bank of Waunakee for 19 years as a teller. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Waunakee and over 51 years a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Waunakee In her spare time she enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling, spending time at her cottage in Adams County and got her greatest joy going to her grandchildren's sporting events.As a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be truly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her daughters, Mary (Kenneth) Wagner, Ashton and Seraphine (Thomas) Acker, Verona; her sons, Steven (Denise), James (Michele), Donald Jr (Carol) and Michael (Jill) all of Waunakee; her 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; her brother, Joseph Ziegler, Waunakee; her sisters, Lucy (Don) Heyroth, Waunakee, Tina Lorge, Bear Creek, Margie (Vic) Piffl, Agnes (Ken) Endres, Waunakee; her sisters-in-law, Arlene Ziegler, Arlington and Joan (Ralph) Runk, Cross Plains; brother-in-law, Mel Herbrand, Waunakee; numerous nieces and nephews. Seraphine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on October 18, 2003, brothers, Hubert "Bud" Ziegler & Peter Ziegler, sisters, Mary Ziegler, Catherine "Casey" Herbrand and Rose (Art) Kalscheur, brothers-in-law, Gerald Lorge and DuWayne "Butch" (Loretta) Statz, sisters-in-law, Ruth Ziegler, Esther Tschudy and Evelyn Statz. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church 7121 Cty Trunk K, Ashton with Fr. Bud Hollfelder and Msgr. James Gunn presiding. Friends may call on Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Winn-Cress Funeral Home in Waunakee and on Friday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.
