Stanley Lavern Hale was born on May 10, 1916 in Baldwin, Iowa, to William A. Hale and Hazel J. (Ricker) Hale. He was a 1935 graduate of Baldwin High School. He married Lina Olive Siegel on June 26, 1939 in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Stanley first worked for Baldwin Implement for 9 years. He then moved to Monmouth where he started Hale Implement, which he owned and operated for 34 years.

Through the years Stanley had served on many community projects including the Baldwin Nashville Cooperative board, Monmouth School board and the Monmouth City Council. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, mushrooming, camping and campfires, hunting, traveling south with the snowbirds, country music and casinos. Bird watching was another interest of Stanley's and he enjoyed making bluebird houses. He had been an avid bowler and after an eye injury and right eye surgery in 1958 he was still able to win bowling events. He also enjoyed family gatherings and liked keeping in touch with the adventures of his 10 great-grandchildren. Stanley was known for storytelling and anytime he met a friend, he had a story or two to tell.

Stanley is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lina Hale of Monmouth, IA; children, Karen (Bill) Alday of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Allan (Kay) Hale of Ely, IA; 5 grandchildren, Stacy (Stephen) Duffy, Ryan Alday, Kristen Hale, Amanda (Nic) Chase, all of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Jennifer (John) Buresh of Ely, IA; 10 great-grandchildren, Brenan, Quin, Ethan and Madelyn Duffy, Dillon and Drake Brunscheen, Bryce and Braden Buresh and twins, Keelen and Colin Hale. Ron Hale wrote on Mar 23, 2012:

"I had not seen my uncle Stanley for perhaps 40 years, but I remember our trips to Iowa in the 1950's and 1960's when we (with my dad, Stan's brother Merlin) visited Ray and Eleanor, Stan and Lina, and Eloise and Bruce, and of course, Grandma Hale (Hazel). My dad died at the age of 68 on February 10, 1989 so Stanley outlived him by many, many years. I wish my dad had been around all these years. Stan used to call me "Boo John" back then and I remember one time when he took out his glass eye and showed it to me. You don't forget those things when you are just a kid. Only memories today. My wife, Pam and I, loved from Los Angeles to Louisville, KY, in 1995 so I could retire early and pursue my passion of playing the Thoroughbred races every day of my life. I have been writing a regular monthly column for all national editions of the Daily Racing Form since 1999. Regards to all the Hale family wherever you are. Ron Hale ronhale1946@aol.com"
