LoVena E.K. Bobenmoyer, 98 of South Sioux City, Nebraska, formerly of Maskell, Nebraska passed away at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City, Nebraska on May 19, 2008.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church in Maskell, Nebraska with Pastor Randy Rasmussen officiating. Burial was at the Maskell Cemetery in rural Maskell, Nebraska.
LoVena was born on April 29, 1910 in rural Newcastle, Nebraska, the daughter of Jacob and Kristina (Larsen) Nielsen. She grew up in the Maskell area. On June 19, 1926 she married Levi Bishop. The couple lived in Maskell where she managed an efficient household and the couple ran a cafe. LoVena also ran a cafe in Coleridge, Nebraska in 1957. She was known by many as the Angel of Maskell. Delila Cooper, Jeannine Stene, Sharon Meyer and Patty Peterson came to live with Levi and LoVena on April 03, 1949. The couple raised them as their own. Levi passed away in 1964. LoVena married Marion Bobenmoyer on October 09, 1976 in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1995, after retirng, the couple moved to South Sioux City. They enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and Texas after retirement. Marion passed away in 1996.
Lovena was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and the Ladies ELCA in Maskell for several years.
She enjoyed cooking, fishing, coffee and loved to crochet.
Survivors include two daughters, Delila and her husband Jim Cooper of Dixon, Nebraska, Jeannine and her husband Dick Stene of Beresford, South Dakota; sons-in-law Vernon Peterson of Sac City, Iowa, and Leroy and his wife Helen Meyer of Newcastle, Nebraska; two step-sons, Neil Bobenmoyer of Obert, Nebraska and Paul Bobenmoyer of Ponca, Nebraska; one step-daughter, June and her husband Norman Anderson of Newcastle, Nebraska; gradchildren, Lisa and her husband Doug Goodyear of Lo Altos Hill, California, Jan and her husband Andy Lux of Hubbard, Nebraska, Shelley and her husband Kirk Brozek of Plainview, Nebraska, Karen Finch of Valley City, North Dakota, Richard Stene of Greenville, South Carolina, Jane and her husband Tony Tecca of Livingston, Montana, Ann and her husband Frank Bouley of Columbia Falls, Montana, Ruth and her husband John Rajs of Brooklyn, New York, Trudy Meyer of Eagle, Nebraska, Bruce and his wife Kerri Meyer of Syracuse, Nebraska, Brandon Meyer of Eagle, Nebraska, Brenda and her husband Roger Bass of Sac City, Iowa and Brain and his wife Tonya Swanson of Lakeview, Iowa; seventeen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
LoVena was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Levi Bishop and Marion Bobenmoyer; two daughters Sharon Meyer and Patty Peterson; one step-daughter, Jean Herfel; one grandson, Brad Meyer; four brothers, Holgar, Albert, Raymond and Melvin and four sisters, Anna, Minnie, Freida and Marion.
