Ralph ''Jeff'' Wombacher

Ralph Wombacher IOWA CITY, Iowa - Ralph "Jeff" Wombacher, 84, of Iowa City, died at his home Monday, July 31, 2000, of cancer. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Ken Kuntz will officiate. Burial will be at Memory Gardens with military rites by local military organizations. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, where a Parish Vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. and the Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Iowa City Hospice or Regina Foundation. Mr. Wombacher was born Jan. 16, 1916, in Hills, the son of Raymond and Mary Helen Deatsch Wombacher. He married Ina Donham on Aug. 28, 1940, in Fort Collins, Colo. He grew up in Hills, moving to Iowa City in 1939. He graduated from University High School and attended the University of Iowa. He was a lead navigator and a 1st Lt. in the Army Air Force during World War II, he received an air medal with six clusters, the distinguished flying cross and other recognitions. He worked for Sears from 1938-1948 and owned Jeff's Music Company from 1948-1965. He retired from Barn Realty in 1978. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where he was a past parish board member and had served as Eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, American Legion, VFW, the Knights of Columbus,and a past member of the Iowa City Elks Club. Survivors include his wife, Ina; three daughters, Tammy Donohoe and her husband, Robert, of Iowa City, Cindi Stevens and her husband, Robert Jr., of Iowa City and Susan Shimon and her husband, Michael, of Irvine, Calif.; three sons, Jeffry Wombacher and his wife, Paula, of Irvine, David Wombacher and his wife, Jane, of Huxley and Mikel Wombacher and his wife, Nancy, of Iowa City; 16 grandchildren and 10 step grandchildren, Leigh, Marti, Jodie, Tyler, Briana, Ryan, Rob, Brian, Katie, Mark, Stephanie, Bryan, Alyssa, Bradley, Brittany, Jason, Aaron, Carissa, Mackenzie, Pierson, Hallie, Jacob, Cody, Chase, Jason and Joe; eight great-grandchildren, Cassie, Megan, Michael, Samantha, Alexandra, Kyle, Kellie, and Kaleb. He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Jessica; five brothers, Ernie, Walter, Urban, Donald, and Lee; three sisters, Sylvia, Wilma and Laura.
