Lloyd Wachs WEST LIBERTY, Iowa - Lloyd Wesley Wachs, 80, of West Liberty died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, in his home, with his family present, following an extended illness. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the West Liberty United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jeanne Koughn will officiate. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in West Liberty. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. at the Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home. Mr. Wachs was born Nov. 22, 1920, in West Liberty, the son of Fredrick Wilhelm and Maude Estes Wachs. He married Viola Middleton Sept. 15, 1940, in West Liberty. He was a 1939 graduate of West Liberty High School. He worked at Carver Pump until he left to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany and France. After returning from the service he worked several jobs until he joined the West Liberty Police Department in 1957, retiring as chief in 1982. He was a member of the American Legion, 36th Infantry Division of the United States Army, and the Moose Lodge. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dennis Wachs and wife Janice and Bill Wachs and wife Edie, all of West Liberty; two daughters, Connie Wachs Schumaker and husband Denny of Davenport and Teresa Wachs of Seattle, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, Doug Schumaker and wife Kim of Crystal Lake, Ill., Dave Schumaker and wife Amy of Lee's Summitt, Mo., Cathy Schumaker Mudd and husband Matt of Bettendorf, Dr. Caryn Schumaker Lant and husband Will of Grove, Okla., Jodi Wachs Simon and husband Bill of West Liberty, Mitch Wachs of Winfield, Casandra Warren and Ashely Wachs of Seattle and Matt Wachs and wife Jill of West Liberty; 13 great-grandchildren, Kasandra, John, Karli, Sam, and Jamison Schumaker, Nathan and Jennifer Schumaker, Lauren and Catherine Jane Lant, Jay, Justin, Bret and Hayley Simon; a sister, Shirley Alberhasky of Aurora, Colo.; and a brother, Russell Bickford of West Liberty.
