Richard Gerling BURLINGTON, Iowa #45;- Richard Kenneth Gerling, 57, Burlington, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel, 2620 Mount Pleasant St., Burlington. The Rev. Mike Rose will officiate. Visitation is after 8 a.m. today, with family present 6-8:30 p.m., at the funeral home. A memorial has been established. Mr. Gerling was born on May 27, 1945, at St. Francis Hospital, Burlington, the son of Clarence J. and Ruth D. Inghram Gerling. He was previously married to Debbie Lowe, his children's mother of Cassville, Penn., and Lynn Hunerdosse of West Point. He worked for Midwest Vinyl, West Burlington. He retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in 2000 after seven years. He also worked for Lehigh-Leopold and was a cabinetmaker at Noelke-Lyons Manufacturing. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1964. He was a former member of First United Church of Christ and attended Oak Street Baptist Church. He was a sprint car fan and attended many races in Knoxville. He built swing sets and was an accomplished carpenter. Survivors include a daughter, Shannon Ewing of Knoxville; a son, Bryant Richard 'Fred' Gerling of Burlington; two grandchildren, Wriglee and Ryne; three sisters, Lois Westerbeck, Norma Johns and Marjorie Haden, all of Burlington; and five brothers, Duane Gerling, Harold Gerling, Gerald Gerling, Loran Gerling and Keith Gerling, all of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
