DR. V. WARREN SWAYZE MUSCATINE, Iowa - Dr. V. Warren Swayze, 89, formerly of 1117 Orange Street, Muscatine, died Thursday, December 26, 2002, at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church with the Pastor Jeff Kellogg officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Adventist Community Service Center. Dr. Swayze was born on Dec. 13, 1913, in Farmington, New Mexico, the son of Melville and Saba Kellogg Swayze. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1931, and Union College, Lincoln, Nebraska in 1936. He taught high school science and math in Phoenix, AZ and Fresno, CA for six years before entering medical school. He married Thelma Margaret Tiede on June 14, 1937, in Phoenix, Arizona. Dr. Swayze was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was a Fellow of The American Academy of Family Practice. Dr. Swayze was a family physician, graduating from the Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1946. He was a medical officer in Fort Lyons, CO for two years after graduating from medical school. He started practicing in Muscatine in 1949. Dr. Swayze retired from practice in 1995, after serving our community for 46 years. His family and his patients were the love of his life. He delivered more than 3000 babies, 30 sets of twins, and one set of triplets. He loved reading and enjoyed gardening and farming. Survivors include one son, Victor W. Swayze II and his wife, Carol; one daughter, Myrna Lee Hanna and her husband, Shawki, of Denver, Colorado; two grandchildren, Krisalyn and Wesley Swayze; and one sister, Ethel Purcell of Muscatine.
