ROBERT J. BIEBER MUSCATINE, Iowa -Robert John Bieber, 81, of Muscatine, died Friday, August 8, 2003, after an extended illness. His Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the St. Mary Church. The Reverend John P. Gallagher will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and his nephew, David Cooney. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Van Camp, Frank Bermel, Paul Bermel, George Cooper and Marvin Cooney. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. with a Rosary following visitation at 8 p.m., at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Robert Bieber Memorial Fund. Robert was born April 21, 1922, in Muscatine, the son of John G. and Rosa Louise Aull Bieber. He married Marcella Peyerl on May 5, 1942 at St. Mary Church, in Muscatine. Robert was a member of the St. Mary Church. He was an avid sports fan and fisherman. He enjoyed family barbecues. He had retired from R.J. Dick Company in 1984 where he had worked as a welder. He had also co-owned and operated Peyerls Apple Orchard for many years. He had served in the US Army during WWII in General Patton's 41st tank battalion, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He was also part of the troops that liberated the prisoners in the Mauthausen Concentration Camp in Austria. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marcella Bieber of Muscatine; eight children, Deanna Borne and her husband, Allen, of Independence, Missouri, Michele Lane and her husband, Kenneth, of Muscatine, Robert F. Bieber and his wife, Laura, of Ely, Iowa, Craig Bieber and his wife, Patricia, of Muscatine, Randy Bieber and his wife, Joyce, of Centerville, Iowa, Dr. Kevin Bieber, of Muscatine, Sherri Lytle and her husband, Gene, of Hiawatha, Iowa, Lori Augspurger and her husband, Dr. John, of Muscatine; 16 grandchildren, Tim and Greg Bennett, Matt and Kelly Lane, Brett, Schuyler, Christian, Steven, Thomas, Alison, Michael, and Nathan Bieber, Jacob, Justin, Collin and Austin Lytle; 5 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Dolores Bieber of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harold and Walter Bieber, and two grandchildren, Chris Bennett and Eric Bieber.
