Jess McCleary MUSCATINE, Iowa #45;- Jess D. McCleary, 71, of 2421 Lutheran Drive, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at Unity Hospital. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, 1931 Houser St. The Rev. Tom Parrott will officiate. Pallbearers are Ben Reimers, William Morgan, Gerald Garvin, Terry McCleary, Robert McCleary and Jim McCleary. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the combined squads of the American Legion Post 27 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1565. A funeral luncheon will be held Moose Lodge after the burial. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Unity Hospital Skilled Care Unit. Mr. McCleary was born on March 10, 1932, in Muscatine, the son of Joseph and Elsie Postel McCleary. He married Gladys M. Lovell on April 10, 1955, in South Boston, Mass. He was an U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1951-1955. He attended Musserville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and watching baseball, especially the Cardinals. He retired from Muscatine Power amp; Water April 1, 1996, after 35 years of employment. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gary S. McCleary and his wife, Mary Jane, of Fruitland, Leo R. McCleary and his wife, Sara, of Muscatine and Brian S. McCleary and his wife, Joan, of Dubuque; two daughters, Ann M. Guck and her husband, Tom, of Muscatine and Janet L. Guldenpfennig and her husband, Mitch, of Letts; 10 grandchildren, Chad McCleary, Kimberly Guck, Jacob McCleary, Amanda McCleary, Stephanie Guck, Kyle Guldenpfennig, Kevin Guck, Megan Guldenpfennig, Betsy McCleary and Sara Grace McCleary; and a brother, Lawrence McCleary of Moline, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Leo and James McCleary.
