DOROTHY BRENDEL MUSCATINE, Iowa - Dorothy J. Brendel, 81, of 116 Nyenhuis Street, Muscatine, died Thursday, July 1, 2004, at Genesis Hospital - West Campus, Davenport, of pneumonia. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Reverend Richard L. Sebeniecher of the New Hope United Methodist Church will officiate. Casket bearers will be her grandchildren. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. A funeral luncheon will be held at the Moose Lodge following the committal service. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, July 5, 2004, at the funeral home with a Women of the Moose service to follow at 4 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Muscatine Humane Society. Online condolences may be left for the Brendel family at www.wittichfuneralhome.com. Dorothy was born on December 2, 1922, in Muscatine, the daughter of Emmett and Nellie Brown Johnson. She married William F. Brendel on March 11, 1939, in Muscatine. She worked at the L. E. Thomas Insurance for eight years and then worked for five years in the Department of Motor Vehicles for the City of Muscatine. She was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church, the Women of the Moose for 42 years, the Ambassador Club at Central State Bank and the Priority Club at First National Bank. Survivors include her husband, William F. Brendel of Muscatine; one son, Wayne F. Brendel and wife, Terry, of Muscatine; one daughter, Diana Oldfield and husband, Charles, of Fruitland, eight grandchildren, Jenny, Joan, and Bill Brendel, Adam Everett, Chase, Cale and Clint Oldfield and Carin Truong; 12 great-grandchildren, Madi and Richie Dilts, Lauren and Jake Brendel, Luke Everett, Danie Eggers, Colton, Carter, Cadee, Caleb, Joshua and Daylan Oldfield; She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Peter and Paul Johnson and Bill Martin, a step-sister, Ruth Hetze, and one brother-in-law, Shannon Reffett.
