I will miss sitting in the stands with Doug as our kids color with marker all over the school\'s tile wall. I\'m sure Doug is laughing about that one now. I will also miss him driving up behind me as I am walking and telling me to go faster or to do my lunges. He was a wonderful father who was always there for his children. He was also a wonderful friend. I will miss you Doug! I know he will be watching over his family especially his kids. It was a privalege to know Doug. My prayers are with all of you."

"My thoughts and prayers go out to Doug??s family, especially his four boys. I had the privilege of working with Doug for the last four years at Midwest Livestock Systems. Having had no experience in the agricultural business when I started working, Doug took the time and had the patience to guide me in my learning process. It is without a doubt that a great majority of the knowledge I now posses is due in large part to what I learned from Doug. In the past year, barely a day went by when I did not call him to pick his brain. Even today, I found myself reaching for the phone to call him on his cell.
What I will miss dearly about Doug is our in-depth conversations about who was better at football; the Nebraska Cornhuskers or the Iowa Hawkeyes. It saddens me that he will not be here next year when the Cornhuskers and the Hawkeyes finally go to battle. It also saddens me that the following Monday, I will not be able to call him to discuss how badly the Cornhuskers beat the Hawkeyes.
Doug was a diligent worker, but he always put his sons first. He approached life as every parent should and never took a moment he had with his sons for granted. Another lesson learned from Doug that I will take to heart as I raise my family.

"Dear Engsler Family - We are truely sorry to hear of the passing of Doug. He was a great person and a wonderful father to Josh and Carter. He will be greatly missed in Tea and at all the sporting activites. He was always great at giving my children complements after the games. Doug coached our son Corbin in Jr Football and he was a great coach with lots of patients for the boys. We feel that he is the reason that today our son is playing quarterback for the highschool team, as Doug was the one to give him that opportunity. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family at this time."

"To Doug\'s Family - Our sincerest sympathy on the loss of this truly wonderful man. We live kiddy-corner across the street from Doug and always enjoyed his hearty waves and friendly, neighborly chats. We sat at the same table two weeks ago when we were registering our kids for school, both scratching our heads about which papers needed to be turned in that day and which needed to be sent back to school with the kids on the first day. Carter was right where you always saw him... at Doug\'s side. We can not begin to count the number of times we have looked out our front window, only to find Doug shooting hoops with Josh and his friends on the driveway. We are so very sorry for your loss. Our neighborhood will never be the same. Please know we are thinking and praying for your entire family and that we hold the confidence that Doug is watching over all of his loved ones from above."

"To all of Doug\'s family in this time of great loss. I first became acquainted with Doug at NIACC and as usual with Doug we became friends soon. We both went to UNI from there. Doug was a character who had the utmost of character. He was passionate about sports but would not confine his circle of friends to athletes only. Doug and I took an adventure to the Boundary Waters right after we finished school in 1987. It was a bit of a rough trip weatherwise but it gave us a bond that others could only hear about in the stories. I have thought of Doug often over the years and I feel a deep sense of loss now. My prayers are with all of his family and friends. The world was a better place because of Doug. "

"I met Doug in high school and we had some great times.
A great guy to hang out with, as we tried to stay out of trouble.
Later, during college breaks we would go out in his old Toyota wagon. What a ride!
When I think back, to those times, I always smile.
More than 15 years had passed when I saw Doug at Duesy Days a couple of years ago. He jumped off the class reunion float to greet me, it was as if no time had passed. We have lost a truly great guy, a good friend. "

He was a joy to be around. I was at your house with Pam to celebrate your first birthday, remember your Ernie shirt?! I made that for you! You are a special little guy and my heart goes out to you and your family. I have been thinking about you every day since I heard of your loss.. I believe that our time on earth is very special. We meet our family and friends and grow with them and will love them forever. Some day we will all be reunited with our loved ones.
