COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - Leona McBride, 89, Columbus Junction, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. The Rev. Scott Nesbitt will officiate. Casket bearers are her grandsons, Patrick James Noel, Steve McBride, Bryan Stine, Richard Duttllinger, Jason Burkett, Gary Van Dyke, Dan Van Dyke, Andy Van Dyke, Joseph Miller, Rick McBride and David Grell. Burial will be at Columbus City Cemetery. A memorial has been established at the funeral home. Mrs. McBride was born Aug. 19, 1917, in Pueblo, Colo., the daughter of Fred and Sarah Lucinda (Waggoner) Jones. She married John Paul McBride on Feb. 11, 1939, in Washington, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1987. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, growing flowers and collecting stained glass figurines, salt and pepper shakers and Budweiser items. She loved square dancing and polka music, reading and watching humming birds. She was especially thrilled by John Wayne movies. She was a dear mother and dearly loved all of her grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Ila Van Dyke and husband Jack of Vining, Ronald McBride and wife Linda of Iowa City, John McBride and wife Donna of Muscatine, Sarah ''Sally'' Grell and husband Douglas of Cedar Rapids, Judy Augustine and special friend Vernie Hole of West Chester, Roxie Burkett and husband Richard of Riverside and Lucy Noel and husband Pat of Columbus Junction; 22 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucy Romano of Largo, Fla. and Wanda Sweat of Moline, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Richard Lee McBride; two great-grandchildren, Cindy Hall and DJ; two sisters; and one brother.
