Maurice Schmeiser Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, United Methodist Church, Wapello. Visitation: Noon-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. WAPELLO, Iowa - L. Maurice Schmeiser, 88, of Wapello, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008. Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman will officiate. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the United Methodist Church and the Wapello Rescue Unit. Mr. Schmeiser was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Wapello, the son of Emanuel and Christena Matilda Wehmeyer Schmeiser. He married Maurine Jarvis on Sept. 30, 1945, in Morning Sun. He graduated from Wapello High School in 1938 and attended Iowa State University. He was a farmer on the family farm near Wapello. He loved farming, traveling and meeting people. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the I.O.O.F. Lodge in Wapello, was a former member of the Kiwanis Club at Wapello and served on the drainage board for more than 25 years. He served on the Southeast Iowa Council executive board of Boy Scouts for many years, having received the Silver Beaver Award. He is survived by his wife; three sons, Bruce Schmeiser and wife, Donna, of West Lafayette, Ind., Russ Schmeiser and wife, Cyndie, of Iowa City and Craig Schmeiser and wife, Nancy, of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren; and a great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Agnes Berkey, Mabel Barnes, Mary Smith and Josephine Walker; and a brother, Martin Schmeiser.
