BESSIE PEARLMAN DES MOINES, Iowa - Bessie Grant Pearlman, 92, formerly of Muscatine, passed away Monday, May 12, 2008, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Graveside Service will be 1:00 pm Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the Banai Moses Cemetery. Rabbi Henry Karp of the Temple Emanuel Synagogue in Davenport, will officiate. Casket bearers will be Zachary Myers, Jeremy Myers, Joshua Vetter, Lenaiya Vetter, Gabriel Weber, and Joseph Connolly. Burial will be in Banai Moses Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 12:30 pm Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Musser Public Library. Online condolences for the Pearlman family may be left at www.wittichfuneralhome.com. Bessie was born on June 11, 1915, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Lena Klietz Grant. She married Dr. Jack L. Pat Pearlman on May 22, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death in 1997 after 56 years of marriage. She was a graduate of Muscatine High School. She grew up in Davenport, where she was head bookkeeper for Tenabaum's Grocery Store (later Eagle Foods) until her marriage in 1942, when she moved to Muscatine. She lived for several years in Iowa City before moving to Des Moines, in 1999. She was a strong community member of Muscatine. She owned two separate businesses, The Knitting Nook and The Gift Shop. She supported community theatre and the public library and participated in the "Know Your Neighbor" inter-racial and inter-denominational city wide-panels in the 1960s. Survivors include four daughters Francine Weber of Des Moines, Janyce Myers of Des Moines, Karen Green of Carrollton, Texas, and Nancy Vetter and husband Dean of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother Sol.
